Guidelines for effective prevention of periodontal diseases  (http://prevention.efp.org/guidelines) report that re-chargeable brushes are more effective than manual brushes at reducing plaque scores and gingival inflammation but there is insufficient evidence at this time to support one brush over another. Short term data (1-3 months) support greater plaque reductions for oscillating brushes than those with a side to side action. However differences were small. Re-chargeable brushes gave greater reduction in plaque scores than for brushes with replacement batteries. (Chapple et al. 2015)1.
